About Us

Why KrakenBJJ.Com Exists And What We're Here To Do

Our Goal

Help BJJ practitioners advance as fast as possible by providing a knowledge resource that is second to none.

Our Focus

We focus on the underlying principles and concepts of BJJ and grappling in general.

Understanding BJJ strategy, Balance, Pressure, and Leverage (BPL), as well as the Hierarchy of Needs (HON) is critical to the development of a grappler and rarely taught inside an academy class setting. These concepts are building blocks and should be learned early in a BJJ practitioner's grappling career. We're here to provide that knowledge.

Tony Erard BJJ

Professor Tony's Background

Tony grew up in the Midwest and began wrestling and learning traditional martial arts at an early age. He also developed a passion for teaching and coaching early on as an assistant freestyle wrestling coach.

It wasn't until Tony was in his twenties that he discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. From the first class, he was hooked and started training almost seven days a week. At the time, Tony was an active duty military officer in the US Air Force. He spent most of his days flying a fighter aircraft or providing technical education on various types of warfare to military officers around the world. He also flew combat missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan (in OIF & OEF).

Two things have been persistent in Tony's life: combat and teaching combat.

Tony has been a black belt since 2015. He's competed and won at every belt level. He still competes, but he finds instructing to be the best way to make his mark on the grappling community.
